Why is Testing and Tagging necessary?
How can I be sure it's really safe?
The only way to make sure that the appliance can be used safely, is by testing it. This includes a physical visual check, and performing standardised electrical tests with specialised equipment to check for safety. The system we use provides proof that correct, safe readings have been obtained.
What if I'm using an RCD?
An RCD cannot automatically ensure that any appliance plugged into it will be safe to use because the RCD only tests for flow of residual current to ground.
Its the Law
The new Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire Safety, Evacuation Procedures, and Evacuation Schemes) 2018/96 Regulations 2018 stipulates that…”The owner and the occupants of a building must take reasonable fire prevention precautions in relation to ..electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances, including portable electrical equipment and appliances
The Health and Safety at Work Act states that a safe work environment must be provided and maintained. To support this, all appliances must be regularly tested and immediately tagged as proof it was tested and how.
This is the only practical way to ensure that they are safe to use.
